Hi @itsRach92,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your printer has ink but is not printing, especially after not being used for over a year, the issue is likely due to clogged print heads or dried-out ink. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve this problem:

1. Run Printer Head Cleaning Utility

Most printers have a built-in utility for cleaning the print heads. This can often resolve issues related to clogged nozzles.

  • Access Printer Head Cleaning Utility:
    • Go to your printer’s control panel or use the printer software on your computer.
    • Look for maintenance or tools options and select the print head cleaning function.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to run the cleaning cycle.

2. Print a Test Page

Printing a test page can help determine if the issue is with the print heads or another component.

  • Print Test Page:
    • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
    • Right-click on your printer and select Printer Properties.
    • Click on Print Test Page.

3. Check Ink Cartridges

Ensure that the ink cartridges are properly installed and not dried out.

  • Inspect Ink Cartridges:
    • Turn off the printer and open the cartridge compartment.
    • Remove the ink cartridges and check for any dried ink or clogged nozzles.
    • If the cartridges have built-in print heads, gently wipe the nozzles with a lint-free cloth and some distilled water.

4. Run Printer Troubleshooter

  • Run Troubleshooter:
    • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
    • Select Additional troubleshooters and choose Printer.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the troubleshooting process.

5. Manually Clean Print Heads.

  • Manual Cleaning:
    • Remove the print heads (if they are removable).
    • Soak the print heads in a small amount of distilled water or a specialized cleaning solution.
    • Gently blot the print heads with a lint-free cloth to remove excess ink.
    • Allow the print heads to dry completely before reinstalling them.

6. Update Printer Drivers

Outdated or corrupt printer drivers can cause printing issues.

  • Update Drivers:
    • Go to the printer manufacturer’s website and download the latest drivers for your model.
    • Install the updated drivers and restart your computer.

7. Check for Firmware Updates

Firmware updates can sometimes resolve printing issues by fixing bugs and improving performance.

  • Update Firmware:
    • Visit the HP  website and download any available firmware updates for your model.
    • Follow the instructions to update the printer firmware.

8. Perform a Factory Reset

If all else fails, you can try performing a factory reset on your printer to restore it to its default settings.

  • Factory Reset:
    • Refer to your printer’s manual for instructions on how to perform a factory reset.
    • This process will vary depending on the make and model of your printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
