HP Recommended

Hi everyone I bought a second hand envy 4520 from a friend and it won’t print ink. The printer seems to be running glike it should but paper comes out with nothing on it. I checked ink levels on the display and they have one bar left at the bottom. Does this printer need ink? I’m not sure if this version stops the  print process when it’s out of ink or do I simply need to insert new ink? Please help!!
