Hi @Brassard13

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

If your HP OfficeJet 8022 is stuck in “Validating” mode, it’s likely caught in a firmware or network initialization loop. You can resolve this by resetting the printer, reinstalling the HP App, and updating the firmware manually.

Step-by-step actions to fix “Validating” mode on HP 8022

Power reset the printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the wall
  • Disconnect all cables (USB, Ethernet, phone line)
  • Wait 60 seconds
  • Plug it back in and power on with no cables attached
  • If the “Validating” message persists, proceed to step 2

Reinstall the HP App

  • On your computer or mobile device, uninstall the HP App
  • Download the latest version from the Microsoft Store or App Store:
    HP App – Microsoft Store
  • Reinstall and open the app, then try adding the printer again

Update firmware manually via USB

  • On a Windows PC, download the latest firmware from HP:
HP OfficeJet 8022 – Firmware Update
  • Use the HP Printer Update Utility to install the firmware via USB
  • If the printer is stuck, try powering it on with the USB cable already connected

Run HP’s Diagnose & Fix tool

Reset network settings

  • If the printer becomes responsive, go to Settings > Network Setup > Restore Network Defaults
  • Reconnect to Wi-Fi using the HP App or control panel

Let me know if the printer remains stuck after the firmware attempt or if the display changes—I’ll guide you through deeper resets or alternate connection methods.

You’ve done everything right by restarting and checking the app, and we’ll make sure your printer gets back to full function.
