Hi @St_paulschool

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The error code #C3-1213 on your HP LaserJet MFP M438nda indicates an imaging unit failure. This error usually signifies a problem with the imaging unit, which is responsible for transferring toner onto the paper. Here’s a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and resolve this issue:

1. Reset the Printer

Turn Off the Printer:

  • Press the power button to turn off the printer. Wait for about 30 seconds.

Power On the Printer:

  • Turn the printer back on and see if the error persists.

2. Check the Imaging Unit

Open the Printer:

  • Open the front door or access panel to the imaging unit. This is usually where you access the toner and imaging units.

Remove the Imaging Unit:

  • Carefully remove the imaging unit. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions to avoid any damage. Typically, you need to pull it out gently.

Inspect the Imaging Unit:

  • Check the imaging unit for any visible damage, debris, or toner buildup. Clean the imaging unit gently with a soft, lint-free cloth if needed.

Reinstall the Imaging Unit:

  • Reinsert the imaging unit back into the printer, ensuring it is properly seated.

3. Check the Toner Cartridges

Remove and Inspect Toner Cartridges:

  • Remove the toner cartridges from the printer and inspect them for any issues. Ensure they are not damaged or empty.

Reinstall Toner Cartridges:

  • Reinsert the toner cartridges back into the printer. Make sure they are properly seated.

4. Perform a Printer Self-Test

Run Diagnostic Test:

  • Use the printer’s control panel to run a diagnostic test or self-test to check if the error has been resolved.

Print a Test Page:

  • Print a test page to verify if the printer is functioning correctly after addressing the error.

5. Update Firmware

Check for Firmware Updates:

  • Visit the HP Support website and search for firmware updates for your LaserJet MFP M438nda.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
