I have followed all HP 6970 and YouTube suggestions.

I called a repair place authorized for HP.  They said my printer wasn't worth fixing.  They charge $150 just to look at it.  Hp's virtual agent keeps telling me that's all I can do.  It's 3 years old.  Does anyone know of a better all-in-one printer scanner that is better, no matter what brand?

No one can answer this question for you - not really, anyway.

You need to have a set of criteria decided and then start looking for a printer - whatever the brand.

For example...

Many printers support single / 1-sided scanning.  Not all, but many.

What if?

For example, if you want 2-sided automatic  (single-pass) scanning, consider the Officejet Pro 9025.

Note that most printers do not support this feature - it is somewhat of a specialty.

Example, search for the printer's "Datasheet".

How to search?  Search for the full printer series name + "datasheet"

What else?

What if you want two trays and a wide variety of paper types and paper sizes supported?

What if you want custom paper sizes supported?

Once you have decided on the kind of printer,

Decide on your budget for a printer.

• Least expensive printers are that way for a reason - they don't support the "extras", in other words and are not generally meant to last for many years.
• Most expensive printers (for example, the top of the line HP Pro Officejet printers) support more (or all) of the extra features.
• Laserjet printers are document printing workhorses but do not always do everything else equally well.  If you have a small office and you need a document printing beast, consider a decent Laserjet printer. 
• Some of the top of line Officejet Pro printers support "digital sending" - very nice and considered mandatory by many - this is another one of the "more expensive printer" options that you will not find in the low-end printers.

Criteria settled - features and budget.

Start looking for a printer.

Start at the top (why not?) - see what your money can buy.

Too expensive?

Whittle down the choices until you find a balance on what you can stand to do without and the features that you "must have".

Compare brands, options, warranty, merchants.

On a single website, compare models, chat, contact the store by phone and ask for help.

Open the potential printer's home page - read the User Guide and the Specifications
