Hi @Vicking,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are getting the "Problem with Printer or Ink System" error on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8620 is often related to the ink cartridges or the printhead.

Here are several troubleshooting steps to help resolve this issue:

1. Restart the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cord and turn the printer back on.

2. Check for Blockages

  • Open the printer and inspect for any paper jams or debris inside the printer.
  • Ensure there is nothing blocking the cartridges or the printhead movement.

3. Reinsert the Ink Cartridges

  • Open the ink cartridge access door.
  • Remove each ink cartridge and inspect for any damage or leaks.
  • Reinsert the cartridges, making sure they snap into place.
  • Close the access door and see if the error persists.

4. Clean the Ink Cartridges and Printhead

  • Power off the printer and unplug it.
  • Remove the ink cartridges and clean the electrical contacts on the cartridges and the corresponding contacts inside the printer using a clean, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
  • Gently clean the printhead as well.
  • Allow everything to dry completely before reinserting the cartridges.

5. Reset the Printer

  • With the printer turned on, unplug the power cord from the printer.
  • Wait 60 seconds, then reconnect the power cord and turn the printer back on.
  • Check if the issue is resolved.

6. Replace the Ink Cartridges

  • If one of the cartridges is faulty, try replacing it with a new HP cartridge.
  • Ensure you are using genuine HP ink cartridges, as third-party ink can sometimes cause this issue.

7. Update the Printer Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Go to the HP Support page and check for the latest firmware updates for your HP OfficeJet Pro 8620.
  • Follow the instructions to update your printer firmware, as outdated firmware can cause issues with the ink system.

8. Remove and Reinstall the Printhead

  • If none of the above steps work, you may need to remove the printhead and reinstall it. Follow the instructions in the printer manual for removing and cleaning the printhead.
  • After reinstalling, restart the printer and check if the issue is resolved.

9. Reset Printer to Factory Settings

  • As a last resort, you can reset the printer to its factory settings:
    • Go to Settings > Tools > Restore Factory Defaults.
    • Be aware that this will remove all customized settings.
