Hi @Steve2276677

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for sharing the issue clearly—and I understand how frustrating it is when a new printer doesn’t recognize a wired network connection despite being physically connected.

Since your HP OfficeJet Pro 8120e isn’t detecting the Ethernet network, let’s walk through a focused set of steps to restore connectivity.

Step-by-step actions to resolve Ethernet detection issue

1. Check Ethernet cable and port

  • Ensure the Ethernet cable is securely connected to both the printer and the router or switch
  • Use a known-good cable and port (test with another device if needed)
  • Look for a green or amber light near the Ethernet port on the printer—this indicates physical link detection

2. Restart printer and router

  • Power off the printer and unplug the Ethernet cable
  • Restart your router or switch
  • Reconnect the Ethernet cable and power on the printer
  • Wait 1–2 minutes for the network to initialize

3. Verify network status on the printer

  • On the printer control panel, go to:
    • Settings > Network Setup > Ethernet Settings > View Ethernet Details
  • Check if an IP address is assigned (e.g., 192.168.x.x)
    • If the IP address is 0.0.0.0 or 169.x.x.x, the printer is not connected properly

4. Print a network configuration page

  • From the control panel:
    • Settings > Reports > Network Configuration Page
  • Review the Ethernet section for:
    • Link status: should be “Connected”
    • IP address: should be valid (not blank or self-assigned)

5. Assign a static IP (optional)

If the printer fails to obtain an IP via DHCP:

  • On the printer:
Settings > Network Setup > Ethernet Settings > Manual IP
  • Enter a valid IP address within your network range (e.g., 192.168.1.250)
  • Set Subnet Mask (usually 255.255.255.0) and Default Gateway (your router’s IP)

6. Use the HP App to complete setup

  • Download the HP App for Windows
  • Open the app and click Add Printer
  • Choose Ethernet-connected printer and follow the prompts

Let me know what the network configuration page shows or if the printer receives a valid IP. You’ve done the right thing by checking early, and I’ll be here to guide you further if needed.
