We keep getting an error message saying to remove thee indicated ink cartridge, making sure it is correctly installed. I have done this multiple times including cleaning the contacts and installing a new cartridge but have had no success.

Hi @billj1234,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you’re getting an error message to remove and reinstall the ink cartridge despite trying new cartridges and cleaning the contacts, here are some troubleshooting steps you can take:

1. Check Cartridge Compatibility:

  • Ensure that the ink cartridges you’re using are compatible with your printer model. Sometimes third-party cartridges can cause issues.

2. Inspect Cartridge Contacts:

  • Make sure the gold contacts on both the cartridge and the printer are clean. Use a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water to gently clean them.

3. Reseat the Cartridge:

  • Remove the cartridge and inspect it for any damage. Reinsert it firmly, making sure it clicks into place.

4. Check for Obstructions:

  • Look inside the printer for any obstructions or debris that might interfere with the cartridge installation.

5. Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it for about 5 minutes. Plug it back in and turn it on to see if the error clears.

6. Update Printer Firmware:

  • Ensure your printer's firmware is up to date. Check the HP Support website or the HP Smart app for updates.

7. Try a Different Cartridge:

  • If you have access to another cartridge (preferably a genuine HP cartridge), try installing it to see if the issue persists.

8. Run Printer Diagnostics:

  • Use the HP Smart app or the printer’s control panel to run diagnostics. This can help identify any underlying issues.

9. Check for Software Issues:

  • Make sure your printer drivers are up to date. You can download the latest drivers from the HP Support website.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
