I'm trying to print envelopes out of MS Word. I've tried feeding the envelopes from both tray one and tray 2. I've tried auto settings for media size as well as specifying #10 envelope. After feeding the envelope through the printer, with nothing printed on it, the printer goes through a "cleaning" cycle. That infers to me the printer tried printing, but missed the paper.

When I insert a piece of letter-sized paper, the data does print to the far left on that page. That confirms to me that the printer is trying to print where the envelope isn't and can't be.

I've gone through the useless virtual assistant and all the other useless smart help. Is there a human who can help?

@Coachjimbo, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I understand you are trying to print on envelopes. yes, this printer supports printing on #10 envelopes. Let us try these steps:

Reset the printer

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  2. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  4. Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  5. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Note: HP recommends connecting the printer directly to a wall outlet rather than a surge protector or a power strip.

Update the printer firmware
