Microsoft Windows 11

I can no longer reduce/enlarge an image on my HP 6978 printer. The last update seems to have changed this function. Is there a way to do it?

Hi @SNDzyn,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

If you can no longer reduce or enlarge an image on your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 printer after a Windows 11 update, it may be due to changes in the printer driver or software settings. Here are steps to help you restore this functionality:

1. Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers

Ensure you have the latest drivers installed for your printer.

Download the Latest Drivers:

  • Visit the HP Support website.
  • Download and install the latest drivers for the HP OfficeJet Pro 6978.

Reinstall Printer Drivers:

  • Uninstall the current printer driver:
    • Open Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.
    • Select your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 and click Remove device.
  • Install the downloaded drivers and follow the on-screen instructions.

2. Check Printer Preferences

Ensure that the scaling options are available and correctly set in the printer preferences.

Open Printer Preferences:

  • Open Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.
  • Select your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 and click Manage.
  • Click on Printing preferences.

Set Scaling Options:

  • In the Printing Preferences window, look for a section like Effects, Page Layout, or Advanced.
  • Look for options like Reduce/Enlarge Document, Scale to Fit, or Custom Scaling.
  • Set your desired scaling percentage or custom scaling settings.

3. Use HP Smart App

The HP Smart app may have options for resizing images before printing.

Download and Install HP Smart:

Open HP Smart:

  • Launch the HP Smart app and add your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 if it’s not already added.

Print from HP Smart:

  • Open the document or image you want to print within the HP Smart app.
  • Look for print settings or options to resize the image before printing.

Kindly check the next set of steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @SNDzyn,

Please find the next set of steps below.

4. Check Application-Specific Settings

Some applications, like Microsoft Word or photo editing software, have their own print settings that allow you to resize images before printing.

Open the Application:

  • Open the application from which you are printing (e.g., Microsoft Word, Paint, or a photo editing tool).

Set Print Preferences:

  • Go to File > Print.
  • In the Print dialog box, select your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 printer.
  • Look for options to resize or scale the image/document in the print settings.

5. Use a Different Printing Method

If the built-in options are not working, you can resize the image using other tools before printing.

  1. Resize Image in a Photo Editor:
    • Open the image in a photo editing tool like Microsoft Paint or any other image editor.
    • Resize the image to the desired dimensions.
    • Save the resized image and print it.

6. Run Windows Troubleshooter

Use the built-in Windows troubleshooter to fix any issues with the printer.

  1. Open Troubleshooter:
    • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
    • Select Printer and click Run the troubleshooter.

7. Check for Firmware Updates

Ensure your printer's firmware is up-to-date.

  1. Download Firmware Update:
    • Visit the HP Support website.
    • Download and install any available firmware updates for your printer.

By following these steps, you should be able to restore the reduced/enlarged functionality for your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 printer on Windows 11. If the issue persists, you may need to contact HP Phone Support for further assistance.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
