Hi @Alan7272,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

The "cartridge missing" error on your HP OfficeJet Pro 9015 printer can occur due to several reasons, such as incorrect cartridge installation, dirty contacts, or the use of incompatible cartridges. Here are the steps you can follow to resolve this issue:

1. Check and Reinstall the Cartridges

Power On the Printer: Ensure that your printer is turned on.

Open the Cartridge Access Door:

  • Lift the ink cartridge access door and wait for the carriage to move to the center of the printer and become idle and silent.

Remove and Reinsert the Cartridges:

  • Gently press down on each cartridge to release it, then pull it out of its slot.
  • Check for any protective tape on the copper-colored contacts or nozzles, and remove it if present.
  • Reinsert each cartridge into its slot by gently sliding it forward until it clicks into place. Ensure each cartridge is in the correct slot by matching the color of the cartridge label with the color of the slot.

Close the Cartridge Access Door:

  • Close the door and check if the error message persists.

2. Clean the Cartridge Contacts

Power Off the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord from the printer and the wall outlet.

Remove the Cartridges Again:

  • Open the cartridge access door and remove the cartridges.

Clean the Contacts:

  • Use a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water to clean the copper-colored contacts on the cartridges.
  • Also, clean the contacts inside the printer where the cartridges are inserted.

Let the Contacts Dry:

  • Allow the contacts to dry completely before reinserting the cartridges.

Reinsert the Cartridges and Power On:

  • Reinsert the cartridges, close the access door, plug the power cord back in, and turn on the printer.

3. Check for Incompatible or Damaged Cartridges

Verify Cartridge Compatibility:

  • Ensure that you are using the correct cartridges for the HP OfficeJet Pro 9015 (HP 962, 962XL, or 966XL).

Check for Damaged Cartridges:

  • Inspect the cartridges for any visible damage, such as leaks or cracks. If any damage is found, replace the cartridge with a new one.

Use Original HP Cartridges:

  • Non-HP or refilled cartridges can sometimes cause issues. If you are using third-party cartridges, consider replacing them with genuine HP cartridges.

Hi @Alan7272 ,

Please find the remaining steps.

4. Reset the Printer

Disconnect the Power:

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer and unplug it from the wall outlet.

Wait 60 Seconds:

  • Wait for at least 60 seconds to reset the printer's internal memory.

Reconnect and Power On:

  • Plug the power cord back into the printer and the wall outlet, then turn on the printer.

5. Update Printer Firmware

  1. Check for Firmware Updates:
    • Go to the HP Support website and check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer model.
  2. Install Updates:
    • Download and install any available updates, as outdated firmware can sometimes cause cartridge recognition issues.

If the error persists after trying these steps, it might be a hardware issue with the printer itself, and contact HP phone support for further assistance.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
