Microsoft Windows 11

I have an HP Office Jet 4635 Printer.  It's about 10 years old.  I turned it off and now will NOT power up.  I have checked the cord connection and it is good.  When I do, there is now a slight noise like a hum.

Hi @461100,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I completely understand how unsettling it is when a trusted device like your HP OfficeJet 4635, which has served you for nearly a decade, suddenly refuses to power on. That faint hum you’re hearing suggests the printer is receiving some power, but something deeper may be preventing it from fully starting up.

Steps to Fix a Printer That Won’t Power On

1. Power Reset the Printer

  • Disconnect the power cord from both the printer and the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord directly into a wall outlet (avoid power strips or surge protectors).
  • Reconnect the cord to the printer.
  • Press and quickly release the Power button (don’t hold it down).

2. Try a Different Power Outlet

  • Sometimes outlets fail silently. Try plugging the printer into a different wall socket.

3. Test with Another Power Cord

  • If you have another HP printer with a similar power cord, try swapping it to rule out a faulty cable.

4. Check for LED on Power Module (if external)

  • If your printer uses an external power adapter, check if the LED light on the adapter is glowing. If not, the adapter may be faulty.

5. Replace the Power Module or Cord

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
