Hi @MsFisher,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The "Printer Failure" message indicating a problem with the printer or ink system is a common issue, and it can be frustrating when standard troubleshooting steps don't resolve the problem. Here’s a comprehensive approach to resolving this issue:

1. Basic Troubleshooting

Restart the Printer:

  • Turn Off: Power off the printer and unplug it from the wall socket.
  • Wait: Leave it unplugged for about 60 seconds.
  • Power On: Plug it back in and turn it on.

Check for Paper Jams:

  • Inspect for Jams: Open the printer and carefully check for any paper jams or debris inside the paper path. Remove any obstructions if found.

Check Ink Cartridges:

  • Inspect Cartridges: Ensure that the ink cartridges are properly installed. Remove and reinsert them to make sure they are seated correctly.
  • Check Cartridge Condition: Verify that the cartridges are not expired, leaking, or damaged.

2. Detailed Troubleshooting

Clean the Ink Cartridges and Contacts:

  • Turn Off Printer: Make sure the printer is powered off.
  • Remove Cartridges: Carefully remove the ink cartridges.
  • Clean Contacts: Use a lint-free cloth and distilled water to gently clean the copper-colored contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer.
  • Reinstall Cartridges: Reinsert the cartridges and power the printer back on.

Perform a Printer Reset:

  • Hard Reset: Unplug the printer from the power source. Wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and power it on.

Update or Reinstall Firmware:

  • Check for Firmware Updates: Visit the HP Support website to see if there is a firmware update available for your printer model.
  • Install Firmware: Follow the instructions on the HP website to update the firmware.

3. Advanced Troubleshooting

Inspect for Internal Issues:

  • Check for Error Lights: Look for any error lights or codes on the printer’s control panel that might give more information about the issue.
  • Listen for Unusual Sounds: Any unusual noises from the printer could indicate mechanical issues.

Check Printer Settings and Software:

  • Printer Software: Ensure that the printer software and drivers are up to date. You can download the latest software from the HP Support website.
  • Print Head Alignment: Perform a print head alignment if the option is available in the printer settings.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
