Does anyone know how to reset the MFP 179 fnw to factory settings?

My problem is that the printer keeps initializing.

The following appears on the screen:

System Initializing

Warming Up

Ready to Copy

Phone

System Initializing

and so on in a loop.

I don't understand why the answer to this question elsewhere in the forum hasn't

Hi @Zakaelmar,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

We understand how frustrating it is when your HP Color Laser MFP 179fnw keeps looping through System Initializing → Warming Up → Ready to Copy → Phone → System Initializing and never becomes fully operational. This usually indicates a firmware or configuration issue.

Steps to Reset and Resolve Initialization Loop

Step 1: Perform a Power Reset

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the wall outlet.
  3. Wait 60 seconds.
  4. Plug the power cord directly into a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors).
  5. Turn the printer back on.

Step 2: Factory Reset the Printer

If the printer powers on but continues looping:

  1. On the control panel, press Menu.
  2. Navigate to:
System Setup → Admin Settings → Clear Settings → Restore Factory Defaults.
  3. Confirm the reset.
(Note: This will erase all custom settings, including network configurations.)

Step 3: Update Printer Firmware

A corrupted or outdated firmware can cause repeated initialization:

Step 4: Reconfigure Network Settings

After the reset:

  • Use the Wireless Setup Wizard or the HP app to reconnect to Wi-Fi.
  • If using Ethernet, ensure the cable and router port are active.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
