If you're seeing an "Incompatible ink cartridge" error on your HP ENVY 4500 e-All-in-One Printer, even though you're using genuine HP cartridges, here are some steps to help resolve the issue:

Check Cartridge Compatibility

Make sure you're using the correct cartridges for the HP ENVY 4500 series:

  • HP 61 Black
  • HP 61 Tri-color
  • Or HP 61XL high-yield versions

Power Reset the Printer

Sometimes a simple reset clears cartridge errors:

  1. Turn the printer on.
  2. Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer.
  3. Unplug the cord from the wall outlet.
  4. Wait 60 seconds.
  5. Plug the cord back into the wall and then into the printer.
  6. Turn the printer on and check if the error persists.

Clean Cartridge Contacts

Ink cartridge contacts may be dirty or misaligned:

  1. Remove the cartridges.
  2. Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
  3. Gently wipe the copper-colored contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer.
  4. Let them dry for 5 minutes.
  5. Reinstall cartridges and check again.

Update Printer Firmware

Outdated firmware can cause cartridge recognition issues:

Download and install the latest firmware for your operating system.

 

Try a Different Genuine Cartridge
