OfficeJet Pro 8600

Replacing the Cyan ink cartridge:

Old cartridge is an HP 951 CN050A Warrenty ends 2018/11

New cartridge HP 951 CN050AN Warrenty ends 2020/04

Printer does not recognize new cartridge as valid, error message "The following cartridge is not intended for use..."

I have cleaned the contacts, removed and reinserted cartridge, turned off machine, unplugged machine both while turned on and turned off.

Suggestions?

Is it possible to force the printer to only print b/w?  Thanks for your help.

Welcome to HP forums.

Make sure that the cartridges are inserted correctly

  1. Slip your fingers into the slot on the left side of the printer, and then pull forward to open the cartridge access door. The carriage moves to the left side of the printer. Wait until the carriage is idle and silent you proceed.

  2. Make sure that the colored dot on the cartridge label matches the colored dot on the carriage slot.

  3. Push in on the front of the cartridge to release it, and then pull the cartridge toward you to remove it from its slot.

  4. Carefully reinsert the cartridge into its slot, and then push the cartridge forward until it clicks into place.

  5. Repeat these steps for other cartridges, if necessary.

  6. Make sure that no cartridge is sticking out farther than the other cartridges. If a cartridge is sticking out, push it until it snaps into place.

  7. Close the cartridge access door.

Check the carriage latch

  1. Slip your fingers into the slot on the left side of the printer, and then pull forward to open the cartridge access door. The carriage moves to the left side of the printer. Wait until the carriage is idle and silent you proceed.

  2. Make sure that the carriage latch is down. If the carriage latch is up, press it down until it clicks.

  3. Close the cartridge access door.

Sandy,  Thanks for your reply.  I had done all those steps prior, but just to be sure, I did it all again. Same result: "The following cartridges are not intended for this computer C"  I realize HP changed cartridges going from a CN050A to a CN050AN and the new cartridges were supposedly compatible with all machines using the 951 cartridge.  Is it possible we have the ONE printer not compatible?

This looks like cartridge issue.

I request you to talk to HP support.

They might have multiple options to help you with this.

1) Click on this link - www.hp.com/contacthp/

2) Click on "Continue as guest".

3) Enter the serial of your device.

4) Select the country from the drop-down.

5) Click on "Show Options".

Fill the web-form. A case number and phone number will now populate for you.

Thanks again...however, after clicking on the link you provided: a "Select a Location" pop-up is the first screen I see.  The option doesn't work.  After closing this pop-up window, I don't get a "Sign in as guest" option and once I enter the printer's serial number the prompt tells me the printer is no longer supported and my option is to join this community...back to where I started.  What am I missing here?

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).

If you are unfamiliar with how the Community's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.

Thank you for visiting the HP Support Community.

Cheers.
