HP OfficeJet 5255 All-in-One Printer

Added HP Scan to my new laptop to scan a document. During the install, I believe my printer's firmware was updated. Immediately upon 1st attempt to print after install, I get cartridge errors. I have genuine HP 63 XL cartridges and I know they have ink. These are not 3rd party cartridges. I removed and reinstalled, cleaned contact with water and IPA, and even reset printer to factory settings. Nothing is working. I have read new firmware is looking for 3rd party cartridges but that is not the case here. these cartridges cost $60 per package and I have no assurance that if I order more, they won't also not function. Please help! Thanks in advance.
