@CVCRKBOB, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Non-HP Cartridge Error!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If you are receiving a message indicating a non-HP cartridge error but have only used HP cartridges, this issue may be due to a few reasons such as a cartridge detection error or a faulty chip. Below are steps you can take to resolve the issue:

Verify Cartridge Installation:

  • Ensure that all cartridges are installed correctly. Open the ink cartridge access door, remove and re-insert each cartridge ensuring they are securely seated in the correct slots.

Restart the Printer:

  • Turn off your printer, wait for a few minutes, and then turn it on again to see if the error persists. Sometimes a simple restart can resolve minor connection issues.

Inspect Cartridges for Damage:

  • Check each cartridge for any visible damage or leaks. If any damage is found, it is advisable to replace the cartridges.

Reset Printer Settings:

  • Try performing a reset to the printer's settings to eliminate any false error messages. Refer to your printer's user manual for specific instructions.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Thanks ZOEY7886 for your time, it was appreciated!  I did everything there, including the factory reset, and still get the same message.  I was disappointed in the HP support or lack there of so I purchased a Brother Printer.  It's not as good as what I had in the HP but the **bleep** thing is working.  Have a good day.

I forgot to mention; on two different occasions I would put in a new HP cartridge and it would say it was empty.  I only bought my cartridges from Costco, Amazon or Walmart so somehow I got some knockoffs from one of those.

Hi @CVCRKBOB,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience.

We're truly sorry to hear about the inconvenience and frustration you went through, especially after making every effort to resolve the issue, including a full factory reset.

We understand how disappointing it must have been, particularly when you’ve remained loyal to using only HP cartridges and still faced this error.

It's never our intention for you to feel unsupported, and we deeply regret that our assistance didn’t meet your expectations in this instance.

Your feedback is extremely valuable, and we genuinely appreciate your patience and honesty. While we’re sorry to see you go, we’re glad you found a working solution that suits your needs.

If you ever decide to return to HP in the future, we’d be happy to support you.

Wishing you a smooth printing experience ahead. Take care.
