Ink cartridge failure with new and functioning real HP ink

HP Recommended
HP Envy 120 e-All-In-One Series
macOS 10.15 Catalina

Turned on my printer and sent a job to print. Ink cartridges are HP OEM color and b&w. I now get a message in the print utility that says "Ink cartridge failure and the printer LED screen says the ink was not intended for this printer. This real HP ink, and the printer was working just fine last week. This ink is also quite expensive and I don't want to buy new real HP ink to replace and test out, because the old "real HP ink" suddenly gave me an error message, should not be a solution.

Thank you for your assistance in advance.

@MaxHead, Welcome to HP Support Community!

Follow the steps below to isolate and resolve the issue-

Step 1: Verify the cartridge numbers

Make sure the cartridge numbers match your printer and where the country/region the printer was purchased.

Go to HP Store and verify the cartridge numbers for your printer model and country/region. Replace any incompatible cartridges.

Step 2: Reset the printer

Reset the printer to recover from printer failures.

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the printer.

  2. Unplug the power cord from the power source.

  3. Wait 60 seconds.

  4. Reconnect the power cord to a wall outlet and to the printer.

Step 3:Update the printer firmware

Download available firmware updates from the HP website

With the printer on and connected to the computer, go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads, and then identify your printer. Look for and install any available firmware updates. Refer to the document HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

Try restarting the printer and see if that works.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
