Hi @Sadielucille,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
I understand you're encountering ink cartridge issues with your HP Officejet 8600 despite having new and high-quality cartridges. Follow the troubleshooting steps below:
Reset the Printer:
- Turn off the printer using the power button.
- Unplug the power cord from the printer and wait for 60 seconds.
- Reconnect the power cord directly to a wall outlet and then plug it back into the printer.
- Turn on the printer and check if the error persists.
Use Genuine HP Ink Cartridges:
- Ensure that you're using genuine HP ink cartridges. Non-HP cartridges can sometimes cause error messages.
- If you have genuine cartridges, ensure they are correctly installed. Remove and reseat each cartridge to make sure they are properly in place.
Check for Firmware Updates:
- Although you've tried updating the firmware from a Mac, try using the HP Smart app or another computer to check for updates.
- If possible, download the latest firmware directly from the HP support website and install it.
Printhead Issues:
- As you've already replaced the printhead, ensure it’s properly installed. A loose printhead can cause cartridge errors.
- If you suspect the printhead is the issue, try reseating it by following these steps:
- Open the cartridge access door.
- Lift the latch handle on the carriage, remove the printhead, and then carefully reinsert it.
- Lower the latch handle and close the cartridge access door.
Cleaning the Contacts:
- Power off the printer and unplug it.
- Open the printer and gently clean the electrical contacts on both the cartridges and the printhead using a lint-free cloth slightly moistened with water.
- Allow the contacts to dry completely before reinstalling the cartridges and the printhead.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
