Hi @CMMa,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be happy to help you!
It seems like your HP OfficeJet Pro 9016 is having trouble recognizing that you are enrolled in the HP Instant Ink program after changing the cartridge. This issue can often be resolved by following these steps:
1. Check HP Instant Ink Account Status:
- Log in to your HP Instant Ink account to ensure your enrollment is active and there are no issues with your subscription.
- Go to the HP Instant Ink website and log in with your credentials.
2. Restart Printer:
- Turn off your printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
- Sometimes a simple restart can refresh the printer's connection with the HP Instant Ink service.
3. Reinsert the Cartridge:
- Remove the ink cartridge from the printer.
- Check the cartridge for any protective tape or packaging that might not have been removed.
- Reinsert the cartridge firmly to ensure it is seated correctly.
4. Check Internet Connection:
- Ensure that your printer is connected to the internet. The HP Instant Ink service needs to verify the cartridge through an internet connection.
- If the printer is connected via Wi-Fi, make sure it has a strong signal and is connected to the correct network.
5. Update Printer Firmware:
- Ensure your printer's firmware is up to date. Sometimes, outdated firmware can cause issues with recognizing Instant Ink cartridges.
- You can check for firmware updates through the printer's control panel or the HP Smart app. Or click here
Kindly check the next set of steps in the next post.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @CMMa,
Please find the next set of steps below.
6. Reset the Printer:
- Sometimes resetting the printer can help resolve the issue.
- On the printer control panel, go to Setup or Settings.
- Find the Restore Defaults or Restore Factory Settings option and follow the prompts.
- Note: This will reset all settings to their default values, so you may need to reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network.
7. Re-enable HP Web Services:
- Disable and then re-enable HP Web Services on your printer.
- On the printer control panel, go to Setup or Web Services.
- Disable Web Services and then enable it again. This will refresh the connection to HP Instant Ink.
8. Run HP Print and Scan Doctor:
- Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool from the HP website.
- This tool can diagnose and fix many common printer issues, including problems with HP Instant Ink.
If none of the above steps resolve the issue, contact HP Phone Support for further assistance. They can check your Instant Ink account status and help further.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
