The images were getting faint so I put in a new cartridge.  Now all I get is a ghostly image so I'm thinking it didn't need a new cartridge, but something else is wrong.  This was a second hand printer so we don't have any info on it.

@FullerLock, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the new cartridges printing faint images!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

hat must be frustrating, especially with a second-hand printer where you don’t have much info. But no worries, let’s try to get it sorted!

Since the issue started after the replacement, a few things could be going on:

Check the Toner or Ink Cartridge – If it’s a toner-based printer, try removing the cartridge and gently rocking it from side to side to evenly distribute the toner. If it’s an inkjet, make sure you’ve removed any protective seals.

Inspect the Drum Unit (Laser Printers Only) – If your printer has a separate drum unit, it might be dirty or worn out, causing faint or ghost images. Try cleaning it with a soft lint-free cloth.

Run a Cleaning Cycle – Most HP printers have a built-in cleaning function. You can usually find it under the printer’s settings or in the HP Smart app.

Check Paper Type & Settings – Using the wrong paper type in settings can sometimes mess with print quality. Double-check that it matches the paper you’re using.

Firmware & Driver Updates – If the printer is a bit older, updating the firmware and drivers from HP official site might help.

Give these a shot and let me know how it goes! If the issue persists, let me know your printer model, and we’ll dig deeper. 😊

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Hello, i had similar experience with my hp laserjet 2015 printer. The printing is blurred with a new cartridge. I tested the cartridge on another printer and it works perfectly.  How can you help?
