@kirklynne,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP LaserJet MFP M140we printer is having an issue with your HP account, even though the printer is already listed under your devices. This problem is often related to HP+ or Instant Ink services, authentication errors, or a temporary glitch.

Sign Out & Sign Back Into HP Account

  • Go to HP Smart on your computer or mobile.
  • Sign out of your account.
  • Restart your device (PC or mobile).
  • Sign back in and check if the issue persists.

Remove & Re-add the Printer in HP Smart

  • Open HP Smart.
  • Remove the printer from your account.
  • Close HP Smart and restart your device.
  • Re-add the printer and see if the issue is resolved.

Reset the Printer's Network Connection

  • On the printer, press and hold the Wireless and Cancel buttons for 5 seconds.
  • Wait for the Wireless light to start blinking.
  • Reconnect the printer to Wi-Fi using HP Smart.

Check for Firmware Updates

  • Go to HP Support (HP Software & Driver Downloads) and enter your printer model.
  • Download and install any available firmware updates.

Disable & Re-enable HP+ Services (If Applicable)

  • If you are using HP+ or Instant Ink, go to your HP account settings and check if the subscription is active.
  • Sometimes, logging into HP Instant Ink and refreshing the page helps.

Factory Reset the Printer (Last Resort)

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Press and hold the Wireless and Cancel buttons.
  • While holding, turn on the printer and keep holding the buttons until it resets.
  • Reconnect the printer via HP Smart

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
