HP Smart Tank 5101 All-in-One Printer

Printer not working all lights flashing. Tried turning off also tried unplugging waiting hours and plugged back in. Same thing all lights flash. tried going through the website to get customer support. Endless loop that never works. SO I manage to track down a number to call and talk to someone, also a joke, but I finally get through to someone. Not much help since the persons connection was awful and continually cutting out. She even asked for my number in case we got disconnected. Well we got disconnected and so far after 20 minutes no call back.

@John21121, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Perform an HP Hard Reset

Turn the printer ON.

Disconnect the power cable from the rear while it is still on.

Unplug the cable from the wall.

Wait 60 seconds.

Plug directly into a wall outlet (not a strip).

Reconnect the cable to the printer → turn it ON.

If the lights keep flashing, continue.

Check for a Paper Jam or Sensor Error

Even tiny fragments trigger a flashing-lights failure.

Remove all paper.

Open the front access door.

Check the carriage path and remove any debris.

Open the rear access and check for tiny pieces of paper near the rollers.

Close everything firmly → restart.

Restore Printer to Factory Defaults

You may refer to this guide: Restore factory defaults on your HP printer | HP® Support

Check Power Conditions

Low or unstable voltage can cause all-light flashing on Smart Tank units:

Plug directly into a wall outlet.

Avoid adapters and surge strips.

Try a different outlet if possible.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
