My Priner is the HP Officejet Pro 8600.

I Just replaced my HP951 Y Cartrige with Genuine Cartrige but the printer still has an error messege HP951 Y is depleted?

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 is showing a “HP951 Yellow cartridge is depleted” error even after replacing it with a genuine HP cartridge, here are a few steps you can try to fix the issue:

Steps to Resolve Cartridge Depleted Error

1. Check Cartridge Authenticity

Even genuine HP cartridges can sometimes be misread if:

  • They were stored improperly.
  • The chip is dirty or misaligned.

Make sure:

  • The cartridge is HP 951 Yellow and not a setup or starter cartridge.
  • You purchased it from a trusted HP-authorized retailer.

2. Clean Cartridge Contacts

  • Turn off the printer and open the cartridge access door.
  • Remove the yellow cartridge.
  • Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to gently clean the gold contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer.
  • Let it dry for 5 minutes, then reinstall.

3. Reset the Printer

  • With the printer on, unplug the power cord from the back.
  • Wait 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and turn the printer on.
  • Check if the error clears.


4. Update Printer Firmware

5. Try Another Cartridge (if available)

If you have another HP 951 Yellow cartridge, try inserting it to see if the error persists. This helps confirm whether the issue is with the cartridge or the printer.
