@Dibbledebs, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding an error message E!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If you are encountering an "E" error message after replacing the black ink cartridge on your HP printer, it is important to follow these steps to resolve the issue:

Check Cartridge Installation:

  • Make sure the ink cartridge is installed correctly. Open the cartridge access door and ensure that the black ink cartridge is seated properly in the slot.

Clean Electrical Contacts:

  • Sometimes ink or debris on the electrical contacts of the cartridge or the printer can cause issues. Use a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water to gently clean the electrical contacts.

Restart the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord. Wait for a minute, then plug the power cord back in and turn on the printer.

Use the Correct Cartridge:

  • Make sure you are using the correct HP ink cartridge for your printer model. Refer to the printer documentation for the compatible cartridge.

Reset the Printer:

  • To reset the printer, turn off the printer, unplug the power cord, wait for about a minute, and then plug the power cord back in and turn on the printer.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • If the problem persists, check if there is a firmware update available for your printer. Visit the HP support website and search for your printer model to download and install any available updates.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
