HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw
Microsoft Windows 11

Laser Jet Pro MFP M283fdw suddenly requires loading tray 1 or accept current setting (press Accept) before it will print.  Tray is loaded already.  Duh.  When it prints, the left side of the page is pushed over to the right, the right side of the page is off the paper.

@NVDesertRat, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

It sounds like your HP Color LaserJet Pro is having two separate issues:

Tray 1 Prompt: This usually happens if the printer thinks the paper type or size doesn't match what's set in the printer settings. Check Printer Preferences on your computer and make sure the paper size/type matches what’s loaded in Tray 1. Also, go to Settings > Paper Handling on the printer itself and confirm the correct tray is selected.

If the print is shifting to the right, try these fixes:

Ensure the document is set to the correct paper size (e.g., A4, Letter) in the print settings.

Go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Calibration/Cleaning and run the alignment process.

Misfeeds can cause alignment issues, so inspect the paper path for obstructions.

Give these a shot and let me know how it goes! 😊

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.

Garp_senchau:  All great suggestions.  I found a solution before your post arrived.  The problem appeared out of nowhere, and after trying everything I could think of, I went to the little LED panel and scrolled through the options.  All the way on the right is "Setup."  From there, "Service," and then "Restore defaults."  I invoked Restore defaults, and the problem disappeared as though it had never happened.  Printing was restored, and from both computers.
