Hi @geneb48

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP LaserJet Pro MFP 148 is showing a constant "printer busy" signal and won't print or copy, it could be due to several factors, including a stuck print job, software issues, or a problem with the printer's internal functions. Here’s how you can troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Clear the Print Queue

The "printer busy" message is often triggered by a print job stuck in the queue. Clearing the print queue can help resolve this issue.

On Windows:

  1. Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  2. Right-click on the HP LaserJet Pro MFP 148 and select See what's printing.
  3. In the print queue window, cancel all jobs by right-clicking on them and selecting Cancel.
  4. If the jobs don't cancel, restart your computer and the printer to reset the queue.

On macOS:

  1. Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  2. Select your HP LaserJet Pro MFP 148 and click Open Print Queue.
  3. Cancel any stuck print jobs.

2. Restart the Printer

A simple restart can often resolve issues with the printer being stuck in a "busy" state.

  • Power Cycle the Printer:
    1. Turn off the printer.
    2. Unplug it from the power source.
    3. Wait for about 30 seconds.
    4. Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

3. Check the Printer’s Display for Errors

If the printer has a display, check for any error messages or warning lights that may provide more information about why the printer is "busy."

  • Check for Paper Jams: Open the printer and check for any paper jams. Even a small paper jam can cause the printer to be stuck in a "busy" state.
  • Check Ink/Toner Levels: Ensure the toner cartridge is properly installed and not empty. If the toner cartridge is empty, replace it with a new one.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
