Laserjet MFP M277dw won't print due to "certificate expired" warning. When going to the printer's webpage, it displays:

Expires On:2025-07-01 00:00 UTC

What do I do?

I am running on Mac OS 15.5 Sequoia

Hi @amyguess,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thanks for your patience, Manjunath. The “certificate expired” warning on your HP LaserJet MFP M277dw is an issue, especially when accessing the printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS) or trying to print from macOS 15.5 Sequoia.

Here’s how to fix it:
Option 1: Regenerate the Self-Signed Certificate

You can do this from the printer’s web interface (EWS):

  1. Open a browser and go to your printer’s IP address (e.g., http://192.168.x.x).
  2. Log in as Administrator.
  3. Go to Networking > Advanced Settings > Certificates.
  4. Click Create a New Self-Signed Certificate.
  5. Set a new expiration date (e.g., 2–5 years from now).
  6. Save and apply the changes.
  7. Restart the printer.

Option 2: Remove and Re-add the Printer on macOS

  1. Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
  2. Select your HP printer and click Remove (-).
  3. Click Add Printer (+).
  4. Select your printer from the list.
  5. Under Use, choose Secure AirPrint or HP LaserJet driver (not Generic).
  6. Click Add.

Option 3: Update Printer Firmware

Outdated firmware may not auto-renew certificates.

  1. Go to: HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support.
  2. Download and install the latest firmware for M277dw.
  3. Reboot the printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
