m283fdw
macOS 11.0 Big Sur

I've used HP products for years.  Just got this M283FDW.  Attempting to print a simple PDF. in colour. (or BW) The size of the WHOLE file in preview is 4MB.  Printing yields a message on printer LCD display:

<QUOTE>

Memory is low.

Job Cancelled.

Press OK to continue.

<END QUOTE>

of course.. this message vanishes WITHOUT PRESSING OK within 10 seconds.

And nothing is printed.

Attempting to print one page at a time I can print certain pages.

Modifying file (in preview) to now just be 1 page. With one graphic with a size of 417,936 bytes (418KB) STILL FAILS.

What the in the devil is going on?

I expect so much more from HP.

Followed all the tips about clearing faxes (no fax connected) did upgrade to latest firmware: 20201215

(BTW, the hp firmware update is unsigned and will not run until you lower security preferences.  Bad bad coding)

did power UNPLUG and turn on.  NO CHANGE.

DISGUSTING!  this image does print on deskjet 3700..

ok. so after wasting 2 hours attempting to debug HP's crappy product found a work around...

When adding in printer using Printers and Scanners option in Big Sur's System Preferences... and choosing type to be Generic Postscript Printer..  IT WORKS!  The 'AirPrint' fails...

so solution is to add printer as 'generic postscript' and all should be good..

Just don't trust HP's airprint until they learn to code properly.

Tragic..
