I was gifted a brand new HP PHOTOSMART 7520 without the Setup Cartridges. I called HP & have spent over 20 hours on the phone with them with no results. A lady Justin in their Instant Ink Department. Showed me a hidden menu. I followed her instructions. I had Genuine HP Ink Cartridges in the printer, but was still getting a error code asking for the Setup Cartridges. She showed told me how to get rid of the error code. But there are more steps necessary to do the job of the Setup Cartridges because the printer still won't print! There is nothing wrong with it mechanically. The last time I talked to HP was yesterday. I spent 8 hours on the phone. The last person I talked to was Jay in HPs Escalation Department. He said that their "Smart Team" wanted over $40 and that they wouldn't guarantee they could solve the problem!

Any suggestions would help.

Error Code Due to Missing Setup Cartridges on HP Photosmart 7520

When setting up a new HP Photosmart 7520 printer, it's crucial to install the cartridges labeled as "SETUP" cartridges that usually come with the printer. These are necessary as they are specifically designed to calibrate the printer during the initial setup process. Here's a guide to address the issue:

  1. Use Setup Cartridges:
For the initial setup of your printer, you must install the SETUP cartridges that shipped in the box with the printer. If these are missing, the printer will continue to prompt you with an error message until they're correctly inserted.

  2. Resolve the Error:

    • Ensure that the printer is turned on.
    • Open the cartridge access door, wait for the print carriage to center.
    • If you have inserted regular cartridges and the error persists, remove them and install the SETUP cartridges.
    • After completing the initial setup with the SETUP cartridges, you can then replace them with regular cartridges once the printer setup is complete.
  3. Calibrate the Printer:
After installing the SETUP cartridges, follow any on-screen instructions to calibrate the printer, ensuring it is ready for regular use.

  4. Contact HP Support:
If you don't have the SETUP cartridges or encounter further issues, it is advisable to contact HP support to possibly procure the missing setup cartridges or get further assistance.

This process is essential to ensure the printer is properly calibrated for optimal performance right out of the box. Remember, attempting to use regular cartridges without completing the initial setup with the SETUP cartridges may lead to continued error messages and print functionality issues.

For more details on the setup process, you can refer to related documents from HP or contact their support team for assistance.
