Microsoft Windows 11

My HP Envy 6500e  printer requires me to manually empty the print queue and restart the print spooler after almost every print (if they're separated by more than a couple hours.

My previous printer did not require this. It's so bad that I'm about to just throw this away and buy a different brand.

The firmware is updated, windows is updated, the drivers are updated. This is absolutely ridiculous.

Hi @whychooseagain,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP Envy 6500e printer is repeatedly requiring you to manually clear the print queue and restart the print spooler. Let’s go through some steps to try and resolve this frustrating issue.

Check Print Spooler Service

Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and hit Enter.

Locate Print Spooler, right-click → Properties.

Set Startup type to Automatic.

If the service is stopped, click Start.

Click Recovery tab → set First failure / Second failure / Subsequent failures to Restart the Service.

Clear Print Queue Manually (for reference)

Stop the Print Spooler service in services.msc.

Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS and delete all files.

Restart the Print Spooler service.

Check for Corrupt Printer Drivers

Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.

Right-click your HP Envy 6500e → Remove device.

Download the latest full-feature HP driver from the HP website.

Reinstall the printer using the latest driver, not the Windows built-in driver.

Disable SNMP Status (if network printing)

Sometimes SNMP causes spooler delays:

Go to Devices and Printers, right-click the printer → Printer Properties → Ports tab → Configure Port → uncheck SNMP Status Enabled → OK.

Check for Conflicting Software

Antivirus or firewall software can interfere with the spooler. Temporarily disable them and try printing.

If it works, add HP printer software to exceptions.

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor

Download and run HP Print and Scan Doctor.

Follow the guided steps to fix spooler issues automatically.

Consider a Clean Windows Spooler Reset

Sometimes residual settings from old printers or corrupted print jobs cause recurring issues.

You can completely remove all printers and spooler settings, then reinstall only this printer.

I hope this helps.

I figured out the fix. I don't know if this is a bug with windows or a bug with the driver install process. I had to logon to Windows not just as a user in the Admin rights group, but as the actual admin user. I received no elevated permission warnings when installing from the user in the admin group, but the driver just was not installing right. once I installed it as the actual local admin user, it installed correctly and works properly now.

This needs to be fixed.

Hi @whychooseagain,

That’s fantastic news — we’re really glad to hear you found the solution! 🙌
Thank you for sharing the fix; installing the driver using the built-in local Administrator account is a great insight and will certainly help others facing the same spooler issue.

Could you please mark it as the “Accepted Solution”?
This way, other community members who encounter the same problem can easily find the resolution.

Thanks again for taking the time to report back and contribute to the community. 👍
