@Rich781,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The "Missing or Failed Printhead" error on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8610 usually indicates a problem with the printhead or its connection. Try these steps to resolve the issue:

Reset the Printer

  1. Turn the printer ON.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the printer without turning it off.
  3. Unplug the other end from the wall outlet.
  4. Wait 60 seconds.
  5. Plug the power cord back into the wall, then into the printer.
  6. Turn the printer ON and check if the error is resolved.

 Reseat the Printhead

  1. Open the ink cartridge access door.
  2. Remove all ink cartridges.
  3. Lift the printhead latch and carefully remove the printhead.
  4. Reinsert the printhead and ensure it is seated properly.
  5. Lower the latch to secure the printhead.
  6. Reinstall the ink cartridges and close the printer cover.
  7. Restart the printer and check if the error is gone.

 Clean the Printhead Contacts

  1. Power off the printer.
  2. Remove the printhead again.
  3. Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to clean the electrical contacts (gold or copper-colored contacts).
  4. Allow the contacts to dry completely.
  5. Reinsert the printhead and cartridges, then restart the printer.

Update the Printer Firmware

If the error persists, update the printer firmware via HP Smart or HP Support website using a USB connection.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
