I have an HP Officejet Pro 8610 printer.  The error message says missing or failed printhead.  Any suggestions on how to resolve this issue?

Hi @B11ewitched,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Re-seat the Printhead

Turn off the Printer:

  • Press the power button to turn off the printer.

Open the Ink Cartridge Access Door:

  • Open the door to access the printhead.

Remove the Printhead:

  • Lift the latch handle on the printhead to release it.
  • Carefully remove the printhead from the printer.

Reinsert the Printhead:

  • Reinsert the printhead into its slot.
  • Lower the latch handle back down to secure the printhead firmly.

Turn On the Printer:

  • Close the ink cartridge access door.
  • Press the power button to turn on the printer.

Clean the Printhead Contacts

Turn off the Printer and Open the Ink Cartridge Access Door:

  • Ensure the printer is off and open the ink cartridge access door as done in step 1.

Remove the Printhead and Clean Contacts:

  • Remove the printhead as described previously.
  • Use a clean, lint-free cloth slightly moistened with distilled water to gently clean the electrical contacts on the printhead and inside the printer.

Re-seat the Printhead:

  • Reinsert the printhead and lower the latch handle to secure it.
  • Close the ink cartridge access door and turn on the printer.

Replace the Printhead

If re-seating and cleaning the printhead does not resolve the issue, it may need to be replaced.

Order a Replacement Printhead:

  • Visit the HP website or contact HP support to order a new printhead.

Install the New Printhead:

  • Once you receive the new printhead, follow the instructions provided in the package to replace the faulty printhead.

I hope this helps.
