Hi @MpKobe

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The "Missing or Failed Printhead" error is a common issue with many printers, particularly HP models. It doesn't necessarily mean that your printer is beyond saving, but it can be frustrating. Before deciding to get a new printer, it’s worth trying a few steps to fix the issue. Here's what you can do:

1. Turn Off Printer and Reinstall Printhead

  • Power off the printer completely and unplug it from the power source for about 1 minute.
  • Open the printer’s access door to reveal the printhead and cartridges.
  • Remove the printhead carefully (if it’s removable, check the manual for instructions).
  • Check for any obstructions or ink buildup on the printhead or surrounding area.
  • Clean the printhead contacts (both on the printhead and inside the printer) with a lint-free cloth or cotton swab lightly dampened with distilled water or rubbing alcohol.
  • Reinstall the printhead and cartridges back into the printer.
  • Power the printer back on and see if the issue persists.

2. Perform a Printer Reset

Sometimes, a reset can help resolve minor internal glitches, including the "Missing or Failed Printhead" error.

  • Turn the printer off.
  • Unplug the power cord from the printer and wait for 30 seconds.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
  • Check if the error has cleared up.

3. Check for Printhead Alignment or Cartridge Issues

If the printhead is properly installed, it could also be a cartridge issue, especially if the cartridge or printhead contacts are damaged or have not been properly installed.

  • Ensure that the cartridges are installed correctly.
  • If you're using third-party or non-HP ink cartridges, this could also trigger the error.
  • Try replacing the ink cartridges with genuine HP cartridges to see if the problem resolves.

4. Try a Deep Clean (Printer Utility)

Some printers have a built-in cleaning function (accessible through the printer's control panel or via the HP software on your computer) that helps resolve printhead issues.

  • Run a deep cleaning cycle through the printer’s control panel or from the software on your computer.
  • This will help clear any clogs in the printhead and might resolve the error.

5. Replace the Printhead

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
