Hi, for some time my 8020e printer has missed random letters when printing a Word docs and my fix was to save the doc as a PDF but now it is doing the same thing with PDF's saved from Word.
I have run all the Tests that are available in the HP Smart ap.
Is there a fix for this annoying problem.
Bob

@bobpave, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
Experiencing issues with missing letters or incomplete printing can be quite frustrating. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help resolve this problem for your HP OfficeJet Pro 8020e printer:
Update Printer Drivers and Firmware:
- Ensure that your printer's drivers and firmware are up to date. You can download the latest updates from the HP Support website.
Check Printer Settings:
- Verify the printer settings in your software application:
- Ensure paper size and type settings match the loaded paper in your printer.
Print Quality Diagnostic Report:
- Use the HP Smart App to print a quality diagnostic page and check for any ink smears or streaks that might indicate hardware issues.
Check Printhead Alignment:
- Perform printhead alignment to ensure optimal performance. This can usually be done through the printer’s control panel settings or the HP Smart app.
Clean Printheads:
- The HP Smart app can help clean the printheads if ink is smudging or missing.
- Navigate to 'Settings' > 'Printer Maintenance' > 'Clean Printhead.'
Test Different Files:
- Try printing different types of documents to determine if the problem persists across various formats, not just Word or PDF files.
Inspect Installed Ink Cartridges:
- Open the printer and check that all ink cartridges are properly installed and that none are empty or dried out.
Check Connectivity:
- Ensure that your printer maintains a stable connection to your computer or network. Sometimes connection issues can lead to incomplete print jobs.
Reinstall Printer Software:
- Uninstall and reinstall the printer software to clear out any potential software glitches affecting print output.
I hope this helps.
Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Thank you to those that offered help with my missing random letters problem. I have found the issue though, the problem happens with any of my Word document templates that were created a number of years ago, ie pre Windows 11. It appears the font that was used then, Times New Roman, is not fully compatible with the latest updates. Once I changed the font to one of the fonts offered in the latest version of Word, all worked fine.
Could I suggest "Changing/updating the font" be top of the list for people seeking to fix this issue.
Regards
Bob
