My smart tank 585 printer is not turning on

Hi @Shivam_09

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

If your HP Smart Tank 585 won’t power on at all (no lights, no display), let’s work through this step by step:

Step 1: Check power source

Make sure the power cable is firmly connected to both the printer and the wall outlet.

Try plugging directly into a wall socket (not a surge protector or extension cord).

Test the socket with another device (like a lamp or phone charger) to confirm it’s live.

Step 2: Power reset

Disconnect the power cable from the printer and the wall.

Wait 60 seconds.

Reconnect firmly and try the Power button again.

Look for any sign (blinking LED, fan sound, display flicker).

Step 3: Inspect power adapter

The Smart Tank 585 uses an external power adapter.

Check for any damage, bent pins, or frayed cable.

If you have a multimeter, test the adapter output (should match the rating on its label).

If the adapter feels overly hot or cold with no output, it may be faulty.

Step 4: Hard reset sequence (if faint signs of life)

If the printer shows even a faint light:

Hold down the Power button for 15 seconds.

Release, then press again once.

This sometimes forces a restart.

Step 5: If still completely dead

Likely causes: failed power adapter or internal power board issue.

Try borrowing or purchasing a compatible HP Smart Tank 500 series power adapter (to rule out adapter failure).

If a known good adapter doesn’t help → it needs HP service/replacement.

Quick question:
When you press the power button, do you see absolutely nothing (no LED flicker at all), or does it try to start (blink/sound but shuts off)? That will tell me if it’s just the adapter or something deeper inside.
