Printer won't work because it keeps saying there's a jam, but nothing is stuck. I've checked several times, unplugged and restarted and just keeps going back to paper jam error message.....

Hi @unuts

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP 8220 printer keeps displaying a paper jam error message even after you've checked for obstructions, here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

1. Check All Paper Paths

  • Inspect for Jammed Paper: Carefully check all paper paths, including the input tray, output tray, and inside the printer. Look for any small pieces of paper that might be stuck, even if they aren’t immediately visible.

2. Remove and Reseat the Cartridges

  • Sometimes, the printer can misinterpret a situation. Remove the ink cartridges, wait a moment, and then reinstall them securely.

3. Reset the Printer

  • Power Cycle: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the wall, wait for about a minute, then plug it back in and turn it on.

4. Check the Rollers

  • Inspect the rollers for wear or debris. Clean the rollers with a damp, lint-free cloth to ensure they’re functioning properly.

5. Run a Printer Diagnostic

  • Use the printer’s built-in diagnostic tools, if available, to check for any hardware issues.

6. Perform a Hard Reset

  • For a hard reset:
    1. Turn off the printer.
    2. Disconnect the power cord and any cables.
    3. Wait for about 2 minutes.
    4. Reconnect everything and turn it back on.

7. Update or Reinstall Drivers

  • Ensure that the printer drivers on your computer are up to date. Sometimes, software issues can cause error messages to appear incorrectly.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
