HI @EasyEd4x,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP DeskJet Office Pro 8620 is displaying a "MISSING/FAILED PRINTHEAD" error message, this can be due to several reasons such as connection issues, dirty contacts, or a faulty printhead. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:

Step-by-Step Troubleshooting:

Restart the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Check if the error message persists.

Check Printhead Installation:

  • Open the printer cover to access the printhead.
  • Ensure the printhead is properly seated in the carriage. Press down firmly on the printhead to ensure it is securely in place.
  • Close the printer cover and check if the error message is resolved.

Remove and Reinstall the Printhead:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Open the printer cover and remove the ink cartridges.
  • Lift the latch that secures the printhead and gently remove the printhead from the carriage.
  • Check for any visible damage or debris on the printhead and the carriage.
  • Reinstall the printhead, ensuring it is properly seated, and then secure the latch.
  • Reinstall the ink cartridges, close the printer cover, and turn on the printer.

Clean the Printhead Contacts:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Open the printer cover and remove the ink cartridges.
  • Remove the printhead from the carriage.
  • Use a clean, lint-free cloth lightly dampened with distilled water to gently clean the electrical contacts on the printhead and inside the printer.
  • Allow the contacts to dry completely before reinstalling the printhead and ink cartridges.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Visit the HP Support website and check for any available firmware updates for your printer model.
  • Download and install the firmware update, following the on-screen instructions.

Replace the Printhead:

  • If the error persists after trying the above steps, the printhead may be faulty and need to be replaced.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
