I have a new HP 3301sdw that has quit printing in color after replacing one cartridge with an OEM one. Help!

Further, I've done all the normal stuff: turn the printer off then on. Turned the laptop off then on. Turned them both off, then on. Called out friends at HP and was told to call back in 24 hours because their system is down (now that's heartwarming).

Hi @fbrooksr, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 3301sdw might not be recognizing the new OEM cartridge properly or there could be a setting issue preventing color printing. Try these troubleshooting steps:

Check the Printer’s Color Settings:

  • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers
  • Right-click your HP 3301sdw and select Printing Preferences
  • Ensure that Print in Grayscale is NOT enabled

Check Printer Status & Supplies:

  • On the printer's control panel, go to Setup > Reports > Supplies Status Report
  • Ensure all cartridges show sufficient toner levels and no errors

Reseat the New Cartridge:

  • Power off the printer
  • Remove and reinstall the new color cartridge
  • Check if there are any loose contacts or protective seals left on the cartridge

Run a Color Calibration:

  • Go to Printer’s Menu > Settings > Print Quality > Color Calibration
  • Perform an Auto Calibration

Check the Driver Settings on Your PC:

  • Open Printer Properties > Advanced > Printing Defaults
  • Ensure that color printing is enabled

Test a Print Directly from the Printer:

  • Print a Configuration Page or a Demo Page from the printer menu
  • If it prints in color, the issue is likely with the PC settings
  • If it’s still black & white, there might be a hardware issue

Try Another Device or App:

  • Print from another PC, mobile, or HP Smart App
  • If color works elsewhere, the issue is with the computer drivers

Uninstall and Reinstall Printer Drivers:

  • Uninstall the printer from Device Manager
  • Download and reinstall the latest drivers from HP website

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
