My HP Envy 4512 no longer prints color from Word and Excel.  I tried to update the driver, but it said it was already updated.

I understand your HP Envy 4512 printer is not printing color from Word or Excel despite updating the driver, there are a few more steps we can try to resolve this issue:

 

Check Printer Settings:

  • Open the document you want to print in Word or Excel.
  • Go to the File menu and select Print.
  • In the print dialog box, make sure that the printer selected is your HP Envy 4512.
  • Click on Printer Properties or Preferences (the wording may vary depending on your version of Windows).

Check Color Settings:

  • Look for an option related to color printing or grayscale.
  • Ensure that the setting is configured to print in color and not grayscale or black and white.

Clean Printer Cartridges:

  • Sometimes, issues with color printing can be due to clogged or empty ink cartridges.
  • Check the ink levels on your printer and replace any cartridges that are low or empty.
  • Use the printer's software or control panel to clean the print heads to ensure clear color output.

Check Printer Connection:

  • Ensure that your printer is properly connected to your computer and that there are no connectivity issues.
  • Try printing a test page from the printer itself to check if it can print in color directly.

Reinstall Printer Driver:

  • Since updating didn't resolve the issue, try uninstalling the printer driver completely:
    • Press Windows + X keys and select Device Manager.
    • Expand the Print queues category, right-click on your HP Envy 4512 printer, and select Uninstall device.
    • Disconnect the printer from your computer.
  • Reconnect the printer and let Windows automatically reinstall the driver, or download the latest driver from the HP website and install it manually.

Check Application Settings:

  • In Word or Excel, make sure that the document is not set to print in grayscale or black and white mode.
  • Check the document's settings to ensure it is set to print in color if necessary.
