HP ENVY 5055 All-in-One Printer

My HP Envy 5055 all in one printer will not print.  I replaced the cartriges with genuine HP 65 Black and Color products.  They both show 80% full.  Printer was working previously with these catriges.  I tried disconnecting the power cord from the cack of the printer and the wall outlet.  Any suggestions on how to resolve?  Thanks

Hi @DJW50

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're facing an issue with your HP Envy 5055 where it's not printing, even though the ink cartridges are genuine and appear to be mostly full. You've already tried power cycling the printer, which is a good first step. Let's walk through some additional troubleshooting steps to get your printer working again.

1. Check Printer Status on Computer

  • Check if the Printer is Online: Make sure the printer is showing as online and not offline.
    • On Windows: Open the Devices and Printers menu, right-click the HP Envy 5055 printer, and select See what's printing. Ensure there are no print jobs stuck in the queue.
    • On Mac: Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners, and make sure the printer is selected as the default printer. Check the status for any error messages.

2. Perform Printer Reset

  • Try performing a reset to clear any potential issues.
    1. Turn off the printer.
    2. Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer and the wall outlet.
    3. Wait 30 seconds.
    4. Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

3. Check Ink Cartridges and Printhead

  • Ensure the Cartridges are Installed Properly: Make sure the cartridges are properly seated in their respective slots. Even slight misalignment can prevent the printer from recognizing them.
  • Check for Protective Tape: Sometimes new cartridges have protective tape on the contacts that must be removed before installation. Double-check the cartridges and make sure the tape is off.
  • Clean the Printhead: Over time, the printhead may get clogged. To clean the printhead, use the printer’s built-in utility:
    • On Windows: Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers > Right-click the HP Envy 5055 > Printing Preferences > Maintenance or Tools, and select Clean Printhead.
    • On Mac: Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners > Select the HP Envy 5055 > Options & Supplies > Utility > Clean Printhead.

4. Check for Error Messages on the Printer Screen

  • Error Messages: Check the printer’s display screen for any error codes or messages. If there’s an error message, refer to the user manual or HP’s website for troubleshooting guidance related to that error.

5. Run HP Print and Scan Doctor

  • HP Print and Scan Doctor is a helpful tool for diagnosing and fixing common printing and scanning issues.
    1. Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor from HP's website: HP Print and Scan Doctor.
    2. Follow the prompts to let the tool automatically detect and fix issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
