My HP LaserJet M233dw has been showing red cross mark continuously without anything printing. No any button is responding. As soon as I plug in the printer the red cross mark starts blowing continuously.

Hi @govindrawani,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry you're dealing with this red “X” or red cross mark on your HP LaserJet M233dw is often the printer’s way of urgently signalling that something needs your attention before it can print.

Let’s walk through what it typically means and how you can get your printer back to normal.

1. Power Reset

  • Turn off the printer, and unplug it for 1–2 minutes.
  • Plug it back in and power it on.

2. Check All Doors

  • Open and re-close the front toner door and the back access panel with a firm click.

3. Reseat the Toner

  • Remove the toner cartridge.
  • Gently shake it side to side and reinstall it carefully.
  • If you have another genuine HP toner, try it just to test.

4. Look for Paper Jams

  • Check all trays and inside the printer for any bits of paper or stuck pieces.

5. Printer Status Page

  • Try printing a configuration or status page from the control panel if accessible.
  • If it won’t print anything at all, even this, it likely confirms a hardware block.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
