I've seen this issue flagged as an "old problem" in archived posts, but have not found more recent help yet. Is it still an issue? Where can I find the most up-to-date solutions? I don't want to upgrade to Big Sur, so am running the most up-to-date version of Catalina (Mac OS 10.15.7). All of my printer drivers are up-to-date, at least as per the Mac Software Updates app and the printer's home page. I've only seen the problem printing from Word 365, so far at least. It seems to have started just a few weeks ago; I had no problems in the previous three or so years using this printer. TIA!

If the copies or test page is fine, it means the hardware of the printer is fine and this could be a driver issue. If the issue persists while printing from the MAC, install the printer using AirPrint driver that may help. Refer to step 2 in this document - Printing with Apple AirPrint

Keep me posted for any other assistance.

@Phil1844, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Try printing different types of documents like PDF, email, or Webpages and check if the issue persists. If the issue is only while printing the Word documents, this could be an application-specific issue. You will have to contact Microsoft.

Try making a standalone copy and check if that prints fine. By this, we can conclude if this is a hardware or a driver issue.

Are you using an HP printer driver or an AirPrint driver?

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thanks, Kumar. I've noticed the problem at least on Word, maybe on Acrobat, but it seems to be intermittent. I just printed a single page from each app; neither showed the problem. Clearly I need to keep track of this so that I can make a better error report. I can, however, make a standalone copy without a problem (although I don't make many such copies, so if it's intermittent...) I assume that I'm using the HP Driver, which I keep updated through my Mac's System Preferences app.

Thanks, Kumar. I'll give that a try if and when the problem recurs. Good to know that the hardware is OK at least.
