Hi @Kasim_55

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for explaining the issue—I'm really sorry your HP Smart Tank 585 is showing a printhead icon alongside an orange exclamation light. That combination typically signals a printhead-related fault, such as improper installation, recognition failure, or ink flow obstruction.

Here’s how to move forward:

Step-by-Step Recovery for Printhead Alert on HP Smart Tank 585

1. Identify Which Printhead Is Affected

  • If the left printhead icon is blinking: issue with the color printhead
  • If the right printhead icon is blinking: issue with the black printhead

This helps narrow down which component needs attention.

2. Power Cycle the Printer

  • Turn off the printer
  • Unplug the power cord for 60 seconds
  • Plug back in and power on

This clears temporary memory and may reset the printhead alert.

3. Reseat the Printheads

  • Open the top cover and wait for the printhead carriage to center
  • Gently lift the latch and remove both printheads
  • Wipe the copper contacts with a lint-free cloth (no alcohol)
  • Reinsert the printheads firmly and close the latch

Improper seating or dirty contacts can trigger recognition errors.

4. Check Ink Levels and Flow

  • Ensure all ink tanks are filled above the minimum line
  • Check for any air bubbles or clogs in the ink lines
  • If needed, run a printhead cleaning cycle from the printer’s control panel or HP Smart app

Low ink or blocked flow can prevent proper priming and trigger alerts.

5. Use HP’s Diagnose & Fix Tool (Windows)

Install or Open HP Smart

  • Download from the Microsoft Store.
  • Launch the app and sign in with your HP account if prompted.

 Access Diagnose & Fix

  • Select your printer from the home screen.
  • Click Printer Settings.
  • Scroll to Diagnose & Fix.
  • Click Start and let it run a full scan.

It will automatically detect and resolve common issues like scanning failures, connection drops, and driver conflicts.

This tool is designed for Smart Tank series and can help clear persistent alerts.

If the alert persists after reseating and cleaning, let me know which icon is blinking—I’ll guide you further based on that. You’re doing everything right by catching this early—I’ll stay with you until it’s resolved.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
