Hi @Mb-5,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 printer has activated the "HP Cartridge Protection" feature, which can prevent non-HP ink cartridges from being used. Here’s how you can try to resolve the issue.

Steps to Disable HP Cartridge Protection:

From the Printer Control Panel:

  • Tap on the printer’s Control Panel.
  • Go to Setup > Tools > Preferences > Cartridge Protection.
  • Select Disable Cartridge Protection.

Via HP Smart App or HP Printer Software:

  • Open the HP Smart app or the HP Printer Software on your computer.
  • Select Printer Settings or Printer Toolbox.
  • Look for HP Cartridge Protection and disable it.

From the Embedded Web Server (EWS):

  • Ensure your printer is connected to the same network as your computer.
  • Get the printer’s IP address from the control panel: Settings > Network > Network Settings > Wireless Settings.
  • Enter the printer's IP address into a web browser to open the Embedded Web Server.
  • Navigate to the Settings or HP Cartridge Protection tab.
  • Disable the Cartridge Protection feature.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
