It sounds like your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 printer has activated the "HP Cartridge Protection" feature, which can prevent non-HP ink cartridges from being used. Here’s how you can try to resolve the issue.
Steps to Disable HP Cartridge Protection:
From the Printer Control Panel:
- Tap on the printer’s Control Panel.
- Go to Setup > Tools > Preferences > Cartridge Protection.
- Select Disable Cartridge Protection.
Via HP Smart App or HP Printer Software:
- Open the HP Smart app or the HP Printer Software on your computer.
- Select Printer Settings or Printer Toolbox.
- Look for HP Cartridge Protection and disable it.
From the Embedded Web Server (EWS):
- Ensure your printer is connected to the same network as your computer.
- Get the printer’s IP address from the control panel: Settings > Network > Network Settings > Wireless Settings.
- Enter the printer's IP address into a web browser to open the Embedded Web Server.
- Navigate to the Settings or HP Cartridge Protection tab.
- Disable the Cartridge Protection feature.
