I can scan with no problem,
However when I try to print an error message comes up saying
"Improper shudown.
To avoid damage , use On button to turn off computer".  On the  screen there is a choice to "DISMISS"
If I dont do anythng printer tries to shutdown and whenever it does the Improper Shutdown message comes up again....OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN

Hi @Willie-Paris,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP OfficeJet 4630 All-In-One Printer is stuck in a loop due to an improper shutdown error. Here are a few steps you can try to resolve this issue.

Power Cycle the Printer

  • Turn Off the Printer: Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer while it is still on.
  • Wait: Leave the printer unplugged for about 1-2 minutes.
  • Plug In and Turn On: Plug the power cord back in and turn on the printer using the power button.

Check for Firmware Updates

  • Using HP Smart or the Printer’s Control Panel: Ensure that your printer’s firmware is up to date. Sometimes firmware updates can resolve such issues.
  • If you can't find your printer's serial number on the HP site, try using the HP Printer Update Utility, which may automatically detect your printer and prompt any available updates.

Reset the Printer to Factory Defaults

  • Access the Settings Menu: On the printer's control panel, navigate to the settings or setup menu.
  • Restore Defaults: Look for an option that says “Restore Factory Defaults” or “Reset All Settings.” This will reset the printer to its original factory settings.

Check the Power Source

  • Ensure Stable Power Supply: Plug the printer directly into a wall outlet rather than a power strip or surge protector. Power interruptions from these devices can cause improper shutdowns.

Check the Printer’s Software and Drivers

  • Reinstall the Printer Drivers: If you're using the printer with a computer, uninstall the printer drivers and reinstall them using the latest version from HP's website.
  • HP Print and Scan Doctor: Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor to diagnose and fix issues with your printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
