macOS 12.0 Monterey

My printer will not wake up until I unplug it and plug it back in. This is very annoying. I can not shut off the sleep mode.  How do I fix this. This is a brand new printer.

Hi @FabeG201,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP OfficeJet Pro 8135e All-in-One Printer not waking up from sleep mode on MacOS 12.0 Monterey, follow these steps:

Update Firmware and Software: Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Ensure that your printer’s firmware is up to date. You can check for firmware updates via the HP Smart app or by visiting the HP support website.
  • Make sure your MacOS is updated to the latest version of Monterey.

Adjust Sleep Settings:

  • Open the HP Smart app on your Mac.
  • Go to your printer settings.
  • Look for options related to power management or sleep settings. If available, adjust the sleep timer to a longer duration or disable sleep mode if possible.

Disable Deep Sleep Mode (if applicable):

  • Some HP printers have a deep sleep mode that can cause them to become unresponsive. Check your printer’s manual or HP support documentation for instructions on how to disable deep sleep mode.

Reset Printer:

  • Perform a factory reset on your printer. This can sometimes resolve issues related to sleep mode. Refer to your printer's manual for instructions on how to perform a factory reset.

Check Network Connection:

  • Ensure that your printer is connected to a stable network. Sometimes, network issues can cause the printer to become unresponsive.
  • Reconnect your printer to your Wi-Fi network and ensure that it has a strong and stable connection.

Energy Saving Settings on Mac:

  • Check your Mac’s energy-saving settings to ensure they are not interfering with the printer’s wake-up process.
  • Go to System Preferences > Energy Saver and adjust the settings to prevent the Mac from putting connected devices to sleep.

HP Print and Scan Doctor: HP Print and Scan Doctor

  • Although HP Print and Scan Doctor is primarily for Windows, you can use similar diagnostic tools available in the HP Smart app on your Mac to troubleshoot and fix common issues.

Refer to this document: HP OfficeJet Pro 8135e All-in-One Printer User manual

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
