My printer I received this message on the printer screen problem with the printer or printer system.  My printer is HP2C5E3B HP OfficeJet Pro 6960.  I have been troubleshooting for hours.  Turn the printer Off, then On. If you continue to get this message, contact HP.  0x6100004a".

I turned off, waited, turned back on.  Same issue.  I unplugged, waited, turned back on. Same issue. I restarted my computer.  Same issue. Connectivity is normal.  There are no paper jams.

@Laura385, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding a problem with your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

The error code 0x6100004A on your HP OfficeJet Pro 6968 usually indicates an internal hardware issue, often related to the printhead, ink system, or a mechanical problem. Since you've already performed basic troubleshooting (power cycling, unplugging, and checking for paper jams), here are some additional steps you can try:

1. Reset the Printer (Hard Reset)

  1. Turn on the printer (if it's off).
  2. Disconnect the power cable from the back of the printer while it's still on.
  3. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  4. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  5. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet first.
  6. Reconnect the power cable to the printer.
  7. Turn the printer back on and check if the error persists.

2. Check the Ink Cartridges & Printhead

  1. Open the printer’s cartridge access door.
  2. Remove the ink cartridges one by one.
  3. Inspect for any ink leaks, damages, or improper installation.
  4. Gently clean the printhead contacts using a lint-free cloth dampened with distilled water.
  5. Reinsert the cartridges properly and close the door.
  6. Restart the printer and check if the issue persists.

3. Perform a Printhead Cleaning (If Accessible)

If your printer allows manual printhead cleaning:

  1. Open the printer lid and check for the printhead assembly.
  2. Remove and clean it carefully using a lint-free cloth and distilled water.
  3. Let it dry completely before reinserting.

4. Update Printer Firmware

  1. Go to HP’s official support site: HP Support
  2. Search for HP OfficeJet Pro 6968.
  3. Download and install any available firmware updates.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
