My Printer is telling me the ink cartridges are not for the printer.  I received the cartridges from HP.  What do I do?

Hi @Ter4301,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your printer is indicating that the ink cartridges are not compatible despite receiving them from HP, you can try the following steps to resolve the issue:

Step 1: Verify Cartridge Compatibility

Check Cartridge Model:

  • Ensure that the cartridges you received match the exact model number of your printer. Cartridges for different printer models might look similar but are not interchangeable.

Confirm Cartridge Packaging:

  • Verify that the cartridges are in their original packaging and that the packaging is not damaged. Cartridges from damaged packaging may sometimes be faulty.

Step 2: Check for Proper Installation

Remove and Reinstall Cartridges:

  • Open the printer and carefully remove the ink cartridges.
  • Check for any protective tape or plastic that may not have been removed from the cartridge.
  • Reinstall the cartridges, making sure they are seated properly and clicked into place.

Clean Cartridge Contacts:

  • Gently wipe the metal contacts on the cartridge and the printer with a lint-free cloth to remove any dust or residue.

Step 3: Reset the Printer

  1. Power Cycle the Printer:
    • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
    • Wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.

Step 4: Update Printer Firmware

  1. Check for Firmware Updates:
    • Visit the HP Support website and search for your printer model.
    • Download and install any available firmware updates.

Step 5: Verify Cartridge Information

Check Cartridge Number:

  • Ensure that the cartridge number matches the one specified for your printer model. Sometimes, incorrect cartridges might be sent by mistake.

Step 6: Verify Printer Settings

  1. Check Printer Settings:
    • Access your printer's settings through its control panel or software.
    • Ensure that the settings are correctly configured for the cartridges used.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
